The Intergenerational Experience (TIE)

Ivy Montessori School is proud to offer a unique Intergenerational Programming experience to our 2nd & 3rd year students. Taking place during the fall and spring terms, this enriching program fosters meaningful connections between young learners and older adults in the community.

Students visit our senior friends (residents at Parkland Retirement Living), where they engage in various activities designed to promote understanding, empathy, and shared experiences. Through storytelling, crafts, games, and simple conversations, children learn to appreciate the wisdom and perspectives of their elders while sharing their own youthful energy and curiosity.

Ivy’s TIE Program provides a wealth of benefits for both children and seniors. Students develop important social-emotional skills, such as communication, empathy, and respect for diversity. Seniors enjoy the company and enthusiasm of young learners, often experiencing reduced feelings of loneliness and isolation. The program also helps bridge generational gaps, creating a stronger sense of community and shared values.

Ivy Montessori School is committed to providing innovative and comprehensive learning opportunities that extend beyond the classroom. TIE-ing together our community through intergenerational learning is just one example of how the school strives to nurture well-rounded individuals who are prepared to make a positive impact on the world.
